Principal for a Day - Timucuan Elementary

I had a very insightful and busy "educational" day today. First interim Principal at Timucuan Elementary, followed by a JCCI Forward event - a round table discussion with superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals and other education professionals.

This was my third experience as a DCPS principal for  a day. Principal Calvin Reddick was there to greet me and we were off to start our day. We started with a quick run around the school to make sure things were ok and then we went straight to a budget meeting at the district office. It was quite interesting to see the dynamics, as an entrepreneur I could relate to moving funds around to make things work.

When we got back to the school, we went to visit some of the classes, Timucuan is one of the few Duval county schools that has a full time art and music program.  It was also Spring picture day... the kids were so cute in their colorful clothes and unique hair styles. The kindergarten class had to take a rain check on the pictures, they were on a field trip at the Jacksonville zoo visiting the penguins.
While I was there a news crew came and interviewed one of the teachers - on her vacation she went to Haiti and volunteered after the earthquake.

I'm looking forward to the next principal for a day and developing a partnership with Timucuan Elementary.
