Principal for a Day!

Wow...I'm tired! Keeping up with 600+ kids is a lot! Today I had the unique opportunity
to be Principal for a Day at Biscayne Elementary with Mrs. Lewis. This was my second time participating in the DCPS Program and I have even more appreciation for all educators!
It was a great experience, everyone needs to do it at this once. It's one thing when someone tells you how it would be, but when you see it first hand... Wow!

Biscayne Elementary has one of the few Physically Impaired programs here in Duval County for kids PreK - 5th grade, plus there is a certified nurse onsite full time!

Did you know that Biscayne Elementary...
  1. Has dedicated teachers that pay for supplies and activities out of their own pocket!
  2. Provides non-academic mentoring for the kids and their families!
  3. Continues to provide programs and activities, usually with no funds!
  4. Incorporates strategic methods to make sure kids get home safely!
They are always looking for volunteers. Please contact them today and show your support for
our kids and our community!

What's up Jacksonville?

WhatsUpJacksonville has always been a big supporter of small businesses in Jacksonville. We commend these entrepreneurs for taking their passion and ideas to the streets and starting their own business.

We recently had the chance to speak with one of our local entrepreneurs, Felicia Wright of Mygani Design Studio. Felicia’s company specializes in corporate branding through the development of marketing campaigns and event promotions. If you’ve had a chance to fly Delta or Southwest in the past few months you may have seen Felicia’s work and not even known it. Her company was contracted to create an ad for the City of Jacksonville featuring downtown, World of Nations, Jacksonville Jazz Festival and Sail Jacksonville.

Felicia has also been profiled in the Jacksonville Business Journal’s “Startup Snapshot.”

We wish the best to Felicia and Mygani Design Studio. If you would like to contact Mygani Design Studio, you can find them online at www.mygani.com or call (904) 860-8440.

Trademarks: Is your brand protected?

Brand image is typically reduced to five elements, name, logo, slogan, packaging, and color. The magnetic uniqueness of your image is so critical that we work closely with a team of experts to create logos that symbolize your products, services, and reputation. The financial success of your brand may be determined by the inherent distinctiveness and stickiness of any of these elements within the psyche of the consumer public. In today's world of online shopping, 30-second television commercials, and pop-up ads, your brand image is your business's identity and its primary calling card, make sure it's protected!

Jacksonville Business Journal

Today I was featured in the Jacksonville Business Journal, Startup Snapshot section. I received alot of positive feed back from family, friends and colleagues. I hope that by sharing my experiences with other business owners, I was able to help someone through their journey.

Community Connections

Today I had the opportunity to decorate a room for a special young lady at Community Connections. The maintenance guys painted the room for me prior to my arrival. I had several things I brought from home to put in the room and a few things I purchased (all the bedding had to be new). As you can see I love Asian accents and contemporary styles.

While I was decorating , the young lady that was getting the room came by. She was very appreciative and thanked me for fixing up the room. It was a very humbling experience, especially during these times knowing that your life could be turned upside down at any minute
if you lost your main source of income. This was just a small gesture to make their new environment feel like "home". If you or someone you know has things at home that you can donate to Community Connections, please Adopt-a-Room!

UNF Girls Going Places

Today I had the great opportunity to mentor girls from over 30 high schools in the Greater Jacksonville area at the Girls Going Places conference. There were aprx 100 girls and 30 mentors. We had a day full of games, budgeting, interviews and product development. This was my first year and it was an awesome experience! The girls were all talented and creative...hmmh I wonder what happened to me at that age?

Delta/Southwest feature Jacksonville, FL

You know those airplane magazines you flip through when you've finished reading your book or listening to your ipod? Well this time you need to pay close attention to the details. This year Jacksonville, FL was the city featured in the Delta and Southwest airline magazines. Focusing on the city’s history, its waterways, medical facilities, golfing, hotels and restaurants. The magazines' communication partner held a premier launching at the MOCA. In the Delta Sky magazine on page 80. I had the honor of designing an ad for the City of Jacksonville featuring Downtown, World of Nations, Jacksonville Jazz Festival and Sail Jacksonville.

FCAAC Heritage Breakfast

Ok, so today I had to get up at 5:30 am in order to attend the FCAAC Heritage Breakfast at the Hyatt downtown. I was so sleepy. But when I got there, I was greeted by the wonderful FCAAC staff and plate of fresh fruit! I sat at the table with a group of fellow colleagues that are participating in a mentor program through the FCAAC this spring. The guest speaker was, A.D. Roberts, Our Spirits Renewed. Sometimes you just need to hear an encouraging word from someone to brighten up your day. He talked about the power in the word hope. He gave an analogy of buying a lottery ticket, and the feeling that he could possible win millions, travel anywhere, buy whatever he wanted... Wow! what an awesome feeling to have unlimited possibilities. Lottery ticket $1 • Winnings $0 • The Possibility PRICELESS.

What are your kids eating?

Today I had the unique opportunity to visit the DCPS Nutrition Service Center for a MWBE Vendor Expo in conjunction with Aramark Education. With a scene right out of a Honey Bunches of Oats commercial, I was ready to tour the "kitchen". To my surprise the "cafeteria lady" isn't the one making meatloaf surprise anymore. At the DCPS Nutrition Service Center, they have strategically come up with innovative ways to make healthy breakfast and lunch choices for the kids. All the ingredients were fresh and made to order.

Principal for a day

Today we were chosen as one of the elite business partners
in collaboration with Duval County Public Schools to participate in Principal for a day. We were paired up with Henry F. Kite Elementary, where Erdine Johnson is principal. Wow, now I see why the kids and teachers say, "Ms Johnson you're my favorite principal!"
