2010 Downtown Jacksonville Holiday Window Displays

JacksonvilleFla. Mayor John Peyton and the City of Jacksonville invite First Coast families to celebrate the season by visiting downtown holiday window displays created by area artists, designers and businesses. The windows are on display throughout downtown now through Jan. 2, 2011.

“The annual holiday window displays take us back to a time when shops delighted children by decorating their storefronts with magical, enchanting displays during the holiday season.  Our modern-day version of this tradition enhances downtown’s already festive atmosphere,” said Mayor Peyton.  “I encourage everyone to enjoy a special evening by touring the displays while experiencing all the dining and entertainment options that downtown has to offer.”

Location: 11 E Forsyth (corner of Forsyth and Main streets)

Principal for a Day - Timucuan Elementary

I had a very insightful and busy "educational" day today. First interim Principal at Timucuan Elementary, followed by a JCCI Forward event - a round table discussion with superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals and other education professionals.

This was my third experience as a DCPS principal for  a day. Principal Calvin Reddick was there to greet me and we were off to start our day. We started with a quick run around the school to make sure things were ok and then we went straight to a budget meeting at the district office. It was quite interesting to see the dynamics, as an entrepreneur I could relate to moving funds around to make things work.

When we got back to the school, we went to visit some of the classes, Timucuan is one of the few Duval county schools that has a full time art and music program.  It was also Spring picture day... the kids were so cute in their colorful clothes and unique hair styles. The kindergarten class had to take a rain check on the pictures, they were on a field trip at the Jacksonville zoo visiting the penguins.
While I was there a news crew came and interviewed one of the teachers - on her vacation she went to Haiti and volunteered after the earthquake.

I'm looking forward to the next principal for a day and developing a partnership with Timucuan Elementary.

Entrepreneurs: What image does your company's logo convey?
If you asked 10 people that know you to describe your logo,
would everyone say the same thing?

A good logo symbolizes your company's identity. If done right,
it will add value and credibility to your company and ultimately
establish brand recognition.

Remember, when you present your company as professional & quality,
you will attract professional & quality clients.

Women in Business Panel

Today, Felicia Wright, CBO of Mygani Design Studio, had the privilege to be one of the panelists at the 2nd Annual Women in Business Panel (UNF). The following topics were discussed with a group of aspiring students:
  • Career Paths: How did they arrive at their current positions?
  • Did you have a mentor?
  • The importance of continuing education- MBA? Professional Certifications?
  • Strategies for battling gender bias and succeeding
  • Trends in the field each panelist represents

As an UNF alumni it was great to go back  and see all the great things the school has to offer the students.  The school has grown tremendously,  since I was there in ????
I wish all the students continued success in their future endeavours.
